3 Quick and Easy Dinner Options When You’re Desperate

Nothing is nearly as stressful as waking up late and rushing to get to work on time. Then you arrive and are busy filing papers and answering calls from your company’s Polycom phones, when your stomach starts rumbling: You skipped breakfast. Not only that, but you left in such a hurry that you forgot to pack a lunch! You’re counting down the hours until you can get home and tear into a good meal, but you’ll need something quick and easy to satiate your hunger fast. Here are some dinner ideas to get something in your stomach fast!

Order Take-Out

An obvious first choice for those in a pinch, take-out is quick, easy, and, for the most part, tasty! There are countless fast-food options at your disposal that offer chicken, pizza, burgers, fries, tacos, and more. Alternatively, you might choose to order from an actual restaurant and pick it up on your way home, in which case your options might be healthier and have more dishes to choose from, just a little more expensive. Either way, this is a fast way to fill yourself up if you don’t feel like making something yourself or don’t have the time. It may not always be the healthiest choice and could ruin your diet, but then again, you’re just looking for some grub.

Scavenge the Cabinets

Sometimes you’ve just got to make do with what you have, and on days when you don’t have the time or energy to make an intricate dish, you can check to see what you already have at home. Boxes of noodles, frozen pizza, instant ramen, and maybe even leftovers; make one, make them all, it depends on just how hungry you are. Do you have any eggs and bread? Have breakfast for dinner and prepare scrambled eggs with toast! Or maybe you want to go old-school and slap together some PB&J sandwiches? It might even be time to break into your fallout shelter and grab a can of mushroom soup. It may not be glamorous, but beggars can’t be choosers!

Starve

Who needs food anyway? Is your kitchen bare to the bone? Don’t want to order take-out for the third night in a row? Make it a fasting night! You can reset your body by taking a day to cleanse your system, only filling up on liquids like water, tea, and coffee. Studies have shown that occasionally fasting for 24 hours can actually improve your cardiovascular health, plus you’ll lose some weight in the process! Just be sure not to actually starve yourself, as this can have a negative effect on the body and leave you malnourished. If you start feeling unwell beyond a mild irritation or urge to feast, grab a small snack to satisfy your cravings. Start fresh tomorrow morning with a bountiful breakfast by grabbing something on your way to work. You can always stop by the store afterward or set something out to thaw before you leave.

Satisfied?

If you are in need of something fast, easy, and filling, these are all great options for quieting your growling stomach. There are many delicious recipes and dishes to choose from, but if you don’t want to hassle with preparing food or running to the grocery store, there’s nothing wrong with breaking into a can of soup every once in a while. Save money, save time, and dig in!–you can make up for it by preparing a casserole tomorrow.
