You just got off your shift at Black Tie Moving, and you can’t wait to get home and binge watch the new Netflix series. However, it’s important to keep in mind that you don’t want to stay up all night watching your new favorite show.
Here’s 4 reasons quality sleep is important. Let’s get into it!
Mental Health
Mental health is incredibly vital to your wellbeing. Depression and anxiety could become debilitating if left untreated for too long. It’s a vicious cycle to break. However, there are ways to help combat these negative mental health ailments. Quality sleep being a big one.
Poor sleep quality can actually act as a catalyst to anxiety in people who are predisposed to this type of disorder. Additionally, those who suffer from sleep disorders are more likely to experience depression. It’s safe to say there’s a strong correlation between sleep quality and mental health disorders.
Make sure you’re getting at least 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep each night. If you’re not sure your sleeping qualifies as “quality”- consider investing in a watch that can track your sleep quality score. Smart watches, like FitBit, do an excellent job at this!
Physical Health
Quality sleep is paramount to your physical health. Your body repairs itself best when it’s in a state of rest, and sleep provides this better than anything else. Your mind is quiet, while your body does what it needs to repair itself.
If you achieve 8 hours of good rest each night, you’re sure to feel the physical benefits the next day. Think about how your body feels after a poor night’s rest. There’s a reason for this. You haven’t given your body the necessary time to recharge and refuel.
If you want to wake up feeling refreshed and full of energy, make sure you’re getting in enough sleep time. Consider what might be impacting your sleep and try to eliminate them as best you can. (Yes, this probably means less time on social media or Netflix!
Energy Levels
The research has shown that insufficient sleep leads to a decrease in energy levels. This makes sense as you consider how sluggish and exhausted you feel after a night of tossing and turning. Sleep plays a big role on our energy levels throughout the day.
In order to ensure that you are vibrant and feeling energetic throughout the day, you need to make sure you get in that quality sleep the night before. While power naps can prove effective for energy, this only works short term.
Having more energy throughout the day helps to enhance productivity, focus, and means that you’re more likely to exercise. After all, who wants to hit the gym if they can barely keep their eyes open?
Clarity
Quality sleep helps with your cognition and mental clarity. While your body is certainly getting the rest it needs, your mind is as well when you close your eyes for the night.
Just think how active our minds are during the day, jumping from one thought to the next. It is always engaged in some type of thinking. When you sleep, your brain enters a different state – one in which it slows down, essentially.
Give your mind the rest it needs by providing it enough time to sleep each night. You’ll certainly reap the benefits when you find your brain less foggy the next day!
