You just ordered your new Brow Daddy from Bowler Esthetics, and you thought about how overwhelmed you’ve felt lately. There are many reasons you could be stressed, but there are also some techniques to help with this – meditation being one of them.
If you’re interested in learning how to start meditating, we’re here to help!
First: What is Meditation?
Meditation has been around for thousands of years. In current times, it’s primarily used as a means to combat stress, anxiety and focus more on the present. Meditation allows you a safe space within yourself. It involves connecting and focusing on your mind and body.
Take it Slow
Meditation is a practice that is mastered over time. Don’t expect to be a perfect meditator as soon as you start. Actually, get rid of the idea that meditation needs to be perfect. One of the wonderful things about meditating, is it’s a practice personal to you. We suggest that you start with simple five-to-ten-minute meditations each day. Work your way up from that at your own pace. If you start with longer meditations from the start, you run the risk of viewing it more as a chore. Take it slow at first!
Learn from Experts
It’s hard to know where to begin when it comes to your journey with meditation. This is why you should learn from the very best meditators. Buddhist monks, like the late Thich Nhat Hanh, have plenty of books available to help get you started with the practice of meditation. If you’re looking for more of the concept of meditation, you could also consider reading The Power of Now as you begin to explore meditation and its meaning.
Guided Meditations
There are many types of meditation practice, and guided meditations are a great way to start if you’re new to meditating. Guided meditations are available online through websites like Spotify and YouTube. They’re also usually entirely free! Sometimes, people find it challenging to meditate on their own. If this is the case for you, take a look at some guided meditations to see if they help.
Practice Throughout the Day
One of the wonderful things about meditation is that you don’t need to necessarily set aside a certain practice time. Meditation is all about bringing awareness to your surroundings. You could practice this awareness while you perform simple tasks like doing the dishes, washing your face, or making the bed. Every moment is an opportunity to practice mindfulness. The more you practice meditation, the more often you’ll find yourself present during your daily life.
Stay Consistent with Routine
Use it or lose it does apply loosely to meditation. If you stop practicing meditation, over time, you will find your mind starts to race again. It will be more challenging for you to be present throughout the day. Meditation is a practice, and you should try and remain consistent with it. Create a routine that works for you – even if it’s just a simple 5-minute mindfulness meditation each morning.
